Is a GPS / SatNav / navigation system available as optional accessory?
Yes, the GPS aka SatNav systems are back in the Aussie Spaceships Universe.
You can add them to your booking when you book your Spaceships campervan or later via the Online Check-in Portal.But if you prefer to use your own smartphone as navigation device you can do that without having to worry about mobile data in Australia.
A lot of map apps have offline mode so you can download NZ maps before starting your road trip. Some of the map apps that have this feature: Maps dot me, Google Maps and Organic Maps.

What is the Speedy Return Pack? How do I add it?
The Speedy Return Pack is the easiest way to drop off your campervan. With it you can drop it off as is and you get some extras included as well. So this is what it is all about.

Short on time? Skip the cleaning and enjoy a faster, hassle-free return with our Speedy Return Pack. All this is included:
✅ Express drop-off – no waiting around at the depot
✅ Free UberX to the airport or city (within 15 km of the depot)
✅ Interior cleaning included – no need to vacuum or clean the inside of the vehicle before returning it
PLEASE NOTE: Speedy Return is NOT OFFERED in Melbourne and Airlie Beach!
For all other drop-off depots you do have the option to add and use the Speedy Return Pack.
How to add Speedy Return to your booking
There are several ways to add Speedy Return to your booking. We have listed 'em from easy to last-minute.
Add Speedy Return to your booking when you make your booking via the official Spaceships Australia booking website. It's listed under accessories. Just click and add. Easy as.
Or if you forgot to do that, you can always add it to your booking via the Online Check-in Portal. Check-in is open from the moment your booking is confirmed until the day of pick-up. Speedy Return is listed under accessories. Just click and add. Super easy.
If you forgot to add it via these easy options, there is still one last-minute option to use, a final option to add it when you are already on the road: contact the friendly Spaceships Australia Crew and ask them to add it to your booking. They will add it and then process the payment via the card that you have added to our secure vault.
Advantages of Speedy Return
If you have Speedy Return on your booking - check your confirmation to see if you have added it - you won't have to deal with these drop-off processes.
Without Speedy Return you'll have to do all this
Wash the outside of the vehicle
Vacuum and clean the inside
Clean the fridge and utensils
And you won't have that free transfer from the depot to the airport. There are so many reasons to add the Speedy Return Pack.
You still need to refuel your Spaceships to the same fuel level as when you got it. That is always part of the drop-off process.

How do I add mosquito nets to my booking? Are they available as a seperate accessory?
Mosquito nets are part of our range of optional accessories. As we have so many optional accessories, we'll only show a selection on our booking page but you'll see an have access to all paid accessories via the Online Check-in Portal, which can be accessed from the moment your booking is confirmed. You'll also find the link to the Check-in Portal and more info in the email confirmation you have received.
December 2025 Update: Mosquito Net Shortage
Due to the popularity of our mosquito nets and a temporary supply shortage, mosquito nets are currently only available as part of our bundled accessories and cannot be added as a standalone item. We are expecting a new shipment to arrive in early February 2026.
In the meantime, we are doing our best to ensure that the accessory packs with mosquito nets included, do get the mosquito nets. We appreciate your understanding and apologise for any inconvenience caused. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

How do I use the insect/mosquito nets? How can I keep bugs out?
The insect or mosquito nets are custom-fit mesh screens designed to cover the window area of your Spaceships campervan sliding door. It's super easy to to install the net:
Open the sliding door
Place the net over the top of the door so it fully covers the opening
Secure the bottom of the net using the attached magnets, they won’t damage the vehicle’s paint.
Fold the sides of the net around the door or window frame, then close it securely.
This keeps insects out while allowing fresh air to circulate inside your campervan.
Unfold the insect net and position it so the long side with the magnets is at the bottom 
Fold the sides of the net inward, attach bottom magnets to the sliding door - they’re designed to be gentle on the surface -

Also known as solar mats, these are foldable solar panels that resemble a picnic blanket when unfolded. We recommend using our solar panel blanket for your trip if you do not plan to drive every day.
And this is how to use it. It's pretty easy.
Park Your Vehicle: Once parked, pop your bonnet to connect the solar blanket to your car battery.
Position the Blanket: Place the solar blanket on your windscreen, ensuring it faces the sun for optimal charging.
Stay Nearby: It's important to use the solar blanket while you are near the vehicle to monitor its use and prevent theft.

How to add optional accessories to my booking? What accessories are there?
You sure can add a variety of optional accessories to pimp your Spaceships ride. Our campervans come with heaps included, like sleeping and cooking gear, but there are more optional accessories to choose from.
We only list the most popular ones on the booking page, but we do list the entire range of accessories on the Online Check-in Portal. You can update your booking via the check-in portal as many times as you like, as long as it is done before your scheduled day of pick-up.
You can for example add the following optional accessories to your booking:

Are soft roof racks available or can I use my own?
Yes, You can hire a soft roof rack for $50 per rental or bring your own.
How to use soft roof racks
Strap Placement: The straps for securing the roof rack go through the cabin. As a result, during rain, water may enter the cabin. This happens because the strap material conducts moisture, which travels through the strap and drips into the cabin at the lowest point. This is not due to leaks through the rubber seal.
During Rain: To minimise water entry, we suggest keeping your boards on top of the bed while travelling in rainy conditions. At night, you can place the boards on the roof without using the straps.
If your boards are wet, you can purchase a tarp to wrap them before placing them on the bed. Bunnings Warehouse and Kmart sell tarps for around $10.
Unfortunately, due to the nature of the material, moisture will travel through the straps, and there is no alternative solution to prevent this.

Is the sunshade a side awning? How do we set it up?
In the past, travellers often used side awnings attached to their Spaceship for outdoor protection and shade. However, as times have evolved, so have these awnings, transforming into what we now call sunshades.
Sunshades offer greater flexibility compared to traditional side awnings. They can be used at the rear of a vehicle, making them perfect for enhancing the outdoor living space of your campervan. This setup allows for a covered area outside the vehicle, ideal for extending the usable space when camping.
The sunshade is designed to be foldable, which makes it extremely convenient to set up and take down. It serves as an excellent shield against the harsh Australian sun, which is especially important considering Australia's strong UV levels due to the thin ozone layer in this region.
Sunshade set-up instructions
The sunshade connects to the tailgate.
Pegs are supplied but only useable in grass or other soft surfaces. Grass in summer could be too hard for the pegs.
If on a sealed surface, you can tie the long ropes off to rocks, trees, or other objects with some weight to them.
Setting it up is easier with two people but also achievable with just one person
Step 1
Grab the end of the fabric with the two short ropes.
Place and then centre the end of the fabric with the two short ropes on top of the tailgate as shown.

Pull the short ropes (one on each side) so they are even in length with one bit in each hand.
Loop one end around the gas strut that holds the boot open and feed this end through the end clip.
Pull the rope firmly back down into the narrow end of the clip so it grabs into the teeth of the end fitting.
The rope won't be secure until it has grabbed properly into the narrow end of the fitting.

Once both sides are secured correctly you can set up the poles and peg the long ropes in or tie them off onto other objects around you.
Other useful tips
For fine weather use only. Do not use in medium-high winds
The sunshade is only water-resistant, not water-proof.
Remember to pack away the pegs and double check all the parts are packed away before moving on.

Can I add a WiFi or MiFi router as optional accessory?
Spaceships come with heaps included, but they do not come with WiFi or MiFi. We don't offer such an optional accessory.

How does the solar shower work?
The solar shower is available as an optional accessory. It is a light bag made from safe, non-toxic PVC. It holds 20 litres of water. Fill the bag and put it in the sun. The bag's material heats the water. You can hang it on a tree branch or the back of your Spaceship. Open it to let the water out for your shower. It's simple to use.
